2004-03-02 - Round and round it goes
Has anyone been paying any attention to what has been going on in Haiti?

A military coup against a democraticly elected leader, by a rebel group we often refer to as "terrorists" these days; some say American made. President Aristide says "He was abducted by the United States in the commission of a coup."

There are already "signs of political reprisals against Aristide supporters in the capital of a country with a history of political upheaval followed by bloody revenge."

We have been down this sorry road before. El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua. We have backed military coups by rebel groups we refer to as terrorists when they menace our friends, groups more friendly to our business interests in the most; groups who go on rampages of slaughter and torture.Groups who have raped American nuns and executed priests who spoke out for the poor.

We are never held accountable, except for in the grief and rage we build in hearts around the world, breeding hatred, breeding terrorism.

Round and round it goes, the greed and the slaughter and the hatred and the pain.

I sit inside.

He is there on my bed. "I got you the mixing bottle." "Thank you." "I got you new cigarettes!"

A turn and a smile.

I am innoculated against the horror around me.
