2004-05-30 - Alter your Ego
Chocolate soothes the troubled soul. (Not very much, but it sounds good.)

* * * * *

Alter your diary, it says to the left of my screen. In a somewhat altered state of consciousness (a way to get through the day... away, to get through the day), I read it as Alter your Ego.

Misreadings are a Freudian slip from the unconscious. In this case, advice perhaps. I need to alter my ego.

Is this the aim of therapy?

In the 50s and 60s, psychiatrists treated people with LSD for just this reason, I imagine. Why go through all those years of pointless talk when you can take a 12 hour trip to get to the same place? Or an even more dramatic one. A real shift in consciousness. A new awareness of a wholly different set of possibilities, known and experienced not just hypothetically intellectually aware of.

Of course now the lousy government says you're not allowed to do something like that in a theraputic setting; hell, we couldn't have all those people running about knowing themselves and not buying into all the world's bullshit and being free without having to buy a new wardrobe to make themselves feel better, they might do some real damage.
